The Welcome Screen

  • The Welcome screen is the first window you will see when you run PhoneSlim on a Windows PC.

  • PhoneSlim is a Windows utility-style app, guiding you step-by-step through a series of pop-up windows.

  • Make sure you have copied all the photos and videos you want to process to your Windows PC (or any connected external drive) before you click Start.

Step 1: Select Input Folders

  • Multiple folders can be selected and processed at the same time.

  • These folders can contain a mix of photos, videos, and their own subfolders.

  • Your original files in the input folders are completely safe and will not be altered.

  • PhoneSlim will scan your input folders for incompatible or duplicate files, and helpful pop-up windows will guide you through resolving them.

Step 2: Select your SlimFolder

  • Select a single destination folder where your processed files will be saved.

  • PhoneSlim calls this your "SlimFolder".

  • The folder structure of your input folders will be perfectly maintained in your SlimFolder. This ensures you will find your output files exactly where you expect them to be.

Step 3: Resize Targets and Formats

  • Select your preferred size for your processed photos and videos.

  • PhoneSlim recommends 1080px (HD+) for photos and 720p (HD) for videos for viewing on a smartphone. However, several options are available so you can choose the quality that works best for you.

  • All image files are converted to the universally compatible JPG format. You can set the format of your video files to either MP4 or MOV. These are standard formats fully compatible with modern smartphones, so there is no need to overthink it.

  • The size of your processed files is estimated at this stage. Keep in mind that this is just a rough estimate; the actual size will vary based on the original quality of your files.

The Processing Screen

  • Check the progress and estimated time left at the bottom of the window.

  • PhoneSlim’s DateFix pop-up windows will appear to help you add missing "Create date" metadata to your files if needed. Click here to learn why some of your files may be missing a "Create date".

  • The total duration of the process will depend on the size of the original files you are processing and the power of your PC.

  • Photo and video encoding is very resource-demanding and can take several hours to complete. We recommend letting your PC run overnight so PhoneSlim can do the heavy lifting while you rest.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is PhoneSlim?
PhoneSlim is a Windows desktop application that can batch-process photos and videos to drastically reduce their file size. Think of it as a manual version of the iPhone's "Optimize Storage" feature, but one that gives you complete control, keeps your files 100% private, and requires zero monthly cloud subscription fees. Designed specifically for phone galleries, it helps you free up storage space on your phone while maintaining—or even improving—how your files are organized and displayed.
2. Can I install PhoneSlim on my smartphone?
No. PhoneSlim is a robust desktop tool and can currently only be installed on Windows 10 and Windows 11 computers. Once you process your files on your computer, you can simply transfer them back to your phone.
3. Can PhoneSlim help me save storage on my iPhone or Android device?
Yes! PhoneSlim is perfectly suited for both Apple iPhones and Android devices (like Samsung, Pixel, and Xiaomi). PhoneSlim deliberately converts your media into universally recognized formats—JPG for photos, and MP4 or MOV for videos. Virtually every smartphone manufactured in the last 15 years fully supports these standard formats, meaning your newly slimmed files will be readable on your phone regardless of the device you use.
4. Will PhoneSlim work on my computer? Are there any minimum system requirements?
PhoneSlim has been designed to work on all 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11 computers. The minimum supported screen resolutions are 1024×768 and 1280×720. Please install and try the Free version to ensure it works as expected on your hardware before purchasing.
5. Can I use PhoneSlim to save storage on my tablet?
Yes, absolutely! However, please keep in mind that PhoneSlim's default recommended sizes in Step 3 (1080px for photos and 720p for videos) are optimized specifically for smartphone screen sizes. Because tablets have much larger displays, you may want to select higher quality settings (such as 1440px or 900p) to ensure your media still looks sharp. We recommend testing the Free version of PhoneSlim first to find the perfect balance between saving storage space and maintaining visual quality on your specific tablet.
6. Some of the processed files in my SlimFolder do not have the size I selected. Why?
PhoneSlim aims to reduce the size of your files to save phone storage. If the target size you selected is larger than the original file, PhoneSlim intelligently skips upscaling and retains the original size. For example, if you set the output size to 1080px, but one of your original photos is only 720px, PhoneSlim will keep that specific photo at 720px.
7. What is DateFix?
DateFix is a built-in feature PhoneSlim uses to add missing "Create Date" metadata to your files. "DateFix Auto" automatically calculates and injects this date by analyzing the file's name or its parent folder's name. If it cannot find a date automatically, "DateFix Manual" allows you to manually input a creation date for the file before processing finishes.
8. How does DateFix work? Give me more details.
If a file missing its "Create Date" metadata is identified, a pop-up window will inform you and offer to run DateFix Auto. Files missing metadata are typically media downloaded from social apps (e.g., Messenger, WhatsApp). These apps usually embed the date the file was shared directly into the filename (e.g., "IMG-20241020-WA0005.jpg").

DateFix Auto first attempts to extract a valid date from the filename. If the filename doesn't contain a recognizable date format (e.g., 20241020, 2026-04-26, etc.), it will scan the parent folder's name (e.g., "20260426 London"). When scanning folder names, DateFix Auto can even detect partial dates where only the year and month are provided (e.g., "2025-12 Christmas in New York"). In partial cases, the date is set to the first day of that month (e.g., 2025-12-01).

If DateFix Auto still cannot find a valid date, the file is temporarily flagged, and DateFix Manual will prompt you to type in a valid date at the end of the processing run. The timestamp assigned to any file treated with DateFix is always safely set to 12:00 PM (midday).
9. Can I run DateFix or fix my video GPS data without reducing the size of my original files?
Yes! If your original files are already in JPG, MP4, or MOV formats, you can use PhoneSlim purely as a metadata repair tool. At Step 3, simply set the selected image and video sizes to "as original" and the video format to "Mixed". PhoneSlim will copy your files to the SlimFolder without compressing them, and then apply its metadata repairs—this includes injecting missing "Create Date" data (DateFix) and optimizing your video GPS data to be readable across both iPhone and Android devices.
10. Some of the converted files in my SlimFolder are larger in size than the originals. Why?
When the selected output video size/resolution is greater than the size of the original file (e.g. you have selected a target resolution of 1080p but the original file is only 600p) or when the output video size is set to "as original" but a format conversion is still required (e.g. changing an older AVI file into a modern MP4), PhoneSlim must re-encode the file. To preserve your original quality, PhoneSlim matches the bitrate of the new file to the old one. Depending on the complexity of the video, this can occasionally result in an output file that is slightly larger than the original.
11. Can I use different video encoders instead of the native Windows encoder?
Yes, you can enable advanced hardware and software encoders (NVIDIA h264_nvenc, AMD h264_amf, Intel h264_qsv, and libx264), but it requires a quick manual upgrade of the FFmpeg tool that comes with PhoneSlim.

To unlock the advanced encoders, follow these steps:
  1. - Make sure PhoneSlim is closed.
  2. - Download a "Full" Windows build of FFmpeg from the official FFmpeg download page.
  3. - Open your PhoneSlim installation folder, navigate to the Tools\FFmpeg\ directory, and replace the existing files in the folder with the new ones you just downloaded. PhoneSlim requires ffmpeg.exe and ffprobe.exe.
  4. - Start PhoneSlim.
Upon your next run, PhoneSlim will automatically detect the new capabilities and prompt you with an Advanced Encoders Detected dialog. From there, you can choose to enable optimized hardware encoding specifically for your system's graphics card, which can improve both speed and quality.
12. What image and video file types does PhoneSlim support?
  • Image files: JPG, JPEG, HEIC, HEIF, PNG, BMP, WebP, and TIFF. All supported image files are converted into the JPG format.
  • Video files: MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV, MPG, 3GP, WebM, WMV, M4V, VOB, MPEG, and TS. All supported video files are converted into MP4 or MOV formats.
  • Extended Format Support: If you manually upgrade PhoneSlim to a full build of FFmpeg (see question 11 above), you automatically unlock support for the following legacy and web-based video formats: FLV, OGV, SWF, RM, and ASF.
13. Can PhoneSlim process Ultra HDR image files?
The current version of PhoneSlim can process Ultra HDR files, but it cannot retain their specialized "gain map" metadata during the conversion process. This may result in the output photo displaying with different brightness levels than the original. We recommend testing the Free version of PhoneSlim first to confirm you are satisfied with how your Ultra HDR files look after conversion.
14. How can I check if all my files were processed successfully?
A summary of the PhoneSlim processing log is displayed on your screen immediately after processing finishes. Additionally, an extended text file containing highly detailed information and processing stats is automatically saved inside your new SlimFolder. Look for the file named PhoneSlim_log_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS.txt.
15. My computer (or PhoneSlim) crashed during processing. What can I do?
A background crash log (named PhoneSlim_Debug_YYYYMMDD.log) is automatically generated and saved in your local Windows AppData folder. You can find this by typing %LOCALAPPDATA%\PhoneSlim into your Windows File Explorer path bar (e.g., C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Local\PhoneSlim\).

Because PhoneSlim intelligently skips files that have already been processed, you can simply open the app and restart the process from where it crashed. If the problem persists or if there are explicit error messages in your debug log, please send the log file to PhoneSlim Support for assistance.
16. Can I transfer my PhoneSlim FULL license to a new computer?
Yes, you can transfer your existing license to another computer. If you still have access to your old computer, open PhoneSlim and deactivate your license there. You can then activate PhoneSlim on your new computer using the same license key. If you no longer have access to your old computer, please contact our support team for assistance.

PhoneSlim is intended for personal use only. We reserve the right to cancel your license if it is shared with others.

FFmpeg is used to decode and encode video files. A lightweight LGPL version of FFmpeg is bundled with PhoneSlim. The native Windows 10/11 hardware encoder is utilized for video processing.

1. The PhoneSlim App: Your Files Stay Yours

The most important thing you should know about PhoneSlim is that we do not have access to your personal photos, videos, or metadata.

  • 100% Local Media Processing: The processing, resizing, and conversion of your media runs entirely locally on your Windows PC. The Software only requires a brief internet connection to validate your license key.
  • No Cloud Uploads: The Software does not upload, sync, or transmit your media files to our servers or any third-party cloud services.
  • Local Crash Logs: If the Software encounters an error, it may generate a debug log saved strictly to your local hard drive (for example within your AppData folder). We only receive this log if you manually choose to send it to us when contacting support.
  • No Telemetry or Tracking in the Software: PhoneSlim does not include telemetry, analytics tracking, or background data collection within the desktop application.

2. Information We Collect

While the Software itself does not harvest your data, we collect limited personal information necessary to operate our business, process transactions, and provide support.

  • Identity & Contact Data: When you purchase a license or contact support, we may collect your name and email address.
  • Financial & Transaction Data: We use Lemon Squeezy as our Merchant of Record. This means Lemon Squeezy is responsible for processing payments, handling billing, managing applicable sales taxes, and complying with financial regulations related to the transaction. When you purchase the Software, your transaction is processed securely by Lemon Squeezy. We never collect, see, or store your credit card number or banking details. Lemon Squeezy shares limited purchase information with us (such as your name, email address, and purchase record) so that we can issue your license key and provide customer support. Lemon Squeezy may collect additional information required to process payments, prevent fraud, and comply with legal obligations. This data is processed according to Lemon Squeezy’s own privacy policy.
  • License Validation Data: If license activation or validation is required, the Software may communicate with our licensing provider to verify that your license key is valid and complies with activation limits. This process may transmit limited technical information such as the license key and a device identifier. No personal files, photos, or videos are transmitted during this process.
  • Technical Data (Website Only): When you visit our website, basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device type, and aggregated website statistics may be collected automatically by our analytics providers to help us maintain and improve the website.
  • Customer Support Data: If you contact us for support, we may collect the information contained in your message, your email address, and any files or debug logs you voluntarily provide.

We only use your personal data when the law allows us to. We use it to:

  • Process your purchase and deliver your Software license key.

End User License Agreement (EULA)

IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE INSTALLING OR USING THIS SOFTWARE:
This End User License Agreement ("Agreement") is a legal agreement between You ("User" or "You") and PhoneSlim Ltd for the software product PhoneSlim ("Software").

By installing, copying, accessing, or using the Software, you agree to be bound by the terms of this Agreement. If you do not agree to the terms of this Agreement, do not install or use the Software.

1. GRANT OF LICENSE

The Software is licensed, not sold. PhoneSlim Ltd grants you a revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable (except as expressly permitted in this Agreement), limited license to download, install, and use the Software worldwide, strictly in accordance with the terms of this Agreement.

a) Free Version (Try Before You Buy):
You may use the Free Version of the Software for personal or professional use indefinitely. THE USER ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THE FREE VERSION IS PROVIDED FOR THE PURPOSE OF EVALUATING THE SOFTWARE'S FUNCTIONALITY AND COMPATIBILITY WITH THEIR SPECIFIC HARDWARE AND SYSTEM CONFIGURATION PRIOR TO PURCHASING A LICENSE.

By purchasing a license, you confirm that you have tested the Free Version on your computer and are satisfied that it functions correctly on your system.

b) Paid Version (One-Time Purchase):
Upon payment of the applicable license fee, you are granted a perpetual license to use the full-featured version of the Software. A perpetual license grants continued use of the Software version purchased, but does not guarantee free access to future versions or major upgrades. A SINGLE PAID LICENSE PERMITS THE INSTALLATION AND USE OF THE SOFTWARE ON EXACTLY ONE (1) COMPUTER AT ANY GIVEN TIME.

c) Transfer of License:
You may transfer your paid license to a different computer owned by you, provided that you first completely uninstall and remove the Software from the previous computer. Concurrent installation or use on more than one computer per single license purchased is strictly prohibited.

d) Single User License and Misuse:
Each license is intended for use by a single individual user. While the license may be transferred between computers as set out above, it may not be shared, distributed, or used by multiple individuals.

PhoneSlim Ltd reserves the right to use reasonable technical measures to detect and prevent license misuse, including excessive or simultaneous activations across multiple devices.

If the Company reasonably determines that a license has been shared, misused, or used in violation of this Agreement, it reserves the right to suspend or terminate the license without refund.

2. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS AND COMPATIBILITY

The Software is designed and tested to work on systems running Microsoft Windows 10 and Windows 11. PhoneSlim Ltd does not warrant that the Software will function correctly on:

  • - Versions of Windows prior to Windows 10.
  • - Future updates or new versions of the Windows operating system released after the date of your purchase.
  • - Non-Windows operating systems (e.g., macOS, Linux).

While we may attempt to update the Software for future OS compatibility, we are under no obligation to do so.

3. DATA BACKUP AND FILE RESPONSIBILITY

The Software processes and modifies image and video files. You acknowledge that such processing may result in changes to file quality, metadata, or structure.

YOU ARE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR MAINTAINING BACKUPS OF YOUR ORIGINAL FILES.

The Company strongly recommends that you keep copies of all original files before using the Software. PhoneSlim Ltd shall not be responsible for any loss, corruption, alteration, or degradation of files, including original or processed files, arising from the use of the Software.

Use of the Software is at your own risk.

4. RESERVATION OF RIGHTS AND UPDATES

PhoneSlim Ltd reserves the right to:

  • - Modify, improve, or remove features and functionality of the Software at any time.
  • - Change the features available in the Free and Paid versions.
  • - Introduce new features, functionality, or services that may require an additional payment.
  • - Discontinue support, maintenance, or availability of any version of the Software at its sole discretion.

PhoneSlim Ltd may, at its sole discretion, provide minor updates, patches, bug fixes, and compatibility improvements (“Updates”) to enhance the performance, stability, or security of the Software. Such Updates may be provided free of charge.

However, the Company reserves the right to designate certain new versions or releases of the Software as major upgrades (“Upgrades”). These Upgrades may include significant new features, substantial improvements, or changes to the Software’s core functionality or architecture.

Upgrades may require the purchase of a new license or payment of an additional fee.

A license purchase grants you the right to use the version of the Software available at the time of purchase and any Updates provided for that version. It does not entitle you to receive future Upgrades unless explicitly stated at the time of purchase.

PhoneSlim Ltd may, at its sole discretion, offer discounted upgrade pricing to existing customers but is under no obligation to do so.

5. RESTRICTIONS

You agree not to, and you will not permit others to:

  • - Reverse Engineer: Decompile, reverse engineer, disassemble, attempt to derive the source code of, or decrypt the Software, except where expressly permitted by applicable law.
  • - Modify: Modify, adapt, improve, or create derivative works from the Software.
  • - Redistribute: Rent, lease, lend, sell, redistribute, or sublicense the Software to third parties without prior written consent from The Company.
  • - Circumvent: Bypass or disable any security or copy-protection features included in the Software.

6. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

The Software, including all intellectual property rights therein, is the sole and exclusive property of PhoneSlim Ltd. This Agreement does not grant you any ownership interest in the Software.

7. PRIVACY AND DATA

The Software does not require you to upload or transmit your image, video, or other user files to PhoneSlim Ltd. All file processing is performed locally on your device.

For the purposes of license activation, validation, and enforcement of this Agreement, the Software may transmit limited technical information to PhoneSlim Ltd systems. This may include:

  • - License key
  • - Device or hardware identifier
  • - IP address
  • - Basic application and activation data

This information is used solely for license management, fraud prevention, and ensuring compliance with the terms of this Agreement. It is not used to access, collect, or process your personal files.

Any personal data is processed in accordance with applicable data protection laws, including the UK GDPR.

8. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITH ALL FAULTS AND DEFECTS WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED UNDER APPLICABLE LAW, PHONESLIM LTD EXPLICITLY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, STATUTORY, OR OTHERWISE, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

The Company does not warrant that the Software will meet your requirements, that the operation of the Software will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that defects in the Software will be corrected.

9. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL PHONESLIM LTD BE LIABLE FOR ANY SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, INDIRECT, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES WHATSOEVER (INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF BUSINESS PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF DATA, OR CORRUPTION OF FILES) ARISING OUT OF THE USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SOFTWARE.

In any event, PhoneSlim Ltd's entire liability under any provision of this Agreement shall be limited to the amount actually paid by you for the Software.

10. TERMINATION

This Agreement is effective until terminated. Your rights under this Agreement will terminate automatically without notice from The Company if you fail to comply with any term(s) of this Agreement. Upon termination, you shall cease all use of the Software and delete all copies of the Software from your devices.

11. SEVERABILITY AND ENTIRE AGREEMENT

If any provision of this Agreement is held to be unenforceable or invalid, such provision will be changed and interpreted to accomplish the objectives of such provision to the greatest extent possible under applicable law, and the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.

This Agreement constitutes the entire agreement between you and PhoneSlim Ltd regarding the Software and supersedes all prior agreements and understandings.

12. GOVERNING LAW

This Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with this Agreement shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

Refund Policy

Thank you for choosing PhoneSlim. This Refund Policy outlines the terms and conditions regarding refunds for the PhoneSlim desktop application (the "Software").

1. Our "Try Before You Buy" Philosophy

We strongly encourage all users to take advantage of the Free Version of the Software before making a purchase.

The Free Version may be used for personal or professional purposes indefinitely and allows you to process input files up to the maximum size permitted in the Free Version, as displayed within the Software. It is provided so that users can evaluate the Software’s functionality and compatibility with their specific hardware and system configuration prior to purchasing a license.

By purchasing a license for the full-featured version of the Software, you acknowledge that you have had the opportunity to test the Free Version and confirm that the Software functions correctly on your system.

2. Refund Request Period

Refund requests must be submitted within 14 days of the original purchase date.

Requests submitted after this 14-day period will generally not be eligible for a refund, except in limited circumstances described in Section 5 of this policy.

3. General Refund Guidelines

Because we provide a Free Version that allows users to test the Software before purchasing, refunds are generally limited to situations where the Software does not function as expected due to a technical issue that could not reasonably have been identified by the user through normal use of the Free Version.

Refunds are typically not granted for the following reasons:

Compatibility Issues

PhoneSlim Ltd does not guarantee that the Software will function on versions of Microsoft Windows earlier than Windows 10, on non-Windows operating systems (such as macOS or Linux), or on future operating system updates released after your purchase. Users are responsible for verifying compatibility using the Free Version before purchasing.

Unmet Expectations

The Software is provided on an “AS IS” basis as described in our End User License Agreement (EULA).

Change of Mind

Purchases are generally considered final once a license key has been issued and activated.

4. Eligible Refund Scenarios

You may be eligible for a refund within the 14-day refund request period if:

  • - You experience a critical and reproducible technical failure or bug in the Paid Version of the Software that prevents it from functioning as intended; and
  • - The issue could not reasonably have been discovered while using the Free Version; and
  • - Our support team is unable to resolve the issue or provide a workaround within a reasonable timeframe.

5. Exceptional Refunds After 14 Days

Refund requests submitted after the 14-day refund request period are generally not granted. However, refunds may be considered at our discretion in rare circumstances, including:

  • - Duplicate purchases
  • - Billing errors
  • - Exceptional technical defects that render the Software unusable and cannot be resolved

We reserve the right to refuse refund requests where there is evidence of abuse of this Refund Policy.

6. Payment Processing

All payments for PhoneSlim are processed by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as our Merchant of Record.

Lemon Squeezy is responsible for payment processing, billing, applicable sales taxes, and financial compliance for transactions made through our Website.

Approved refunds will be processed through Lemon Squeezy’s payment system using the original payment method where possible.

7. How to Request a Refund

To request a refund, please contact our support team within the refund request period.

Please include:

  • - Your purchase receipt or order confirmation
  • - Your license key
  • - A description of the technical issue you are experiencing (if applicable)

8. Post-Refund License Revocation

  • - The Software will revert to the Free Version.

Any continued use of a refunded license key is prohibited.

We may update this Refund Policy from time to time. When changes are made, the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page will be revised.
